Interest in intravenous "vitamin drips" has grown, and many people wonder about them for tiredness or immune support. Like any popular treatment, a vitamin infusion needs the right indication, a physician's assessment and safe administration.

What is it?

A vitamin drip delivers vitamins and minerals chosen by a physician directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the digestive system. This helps people with absorption problems, but unnecessary use carries a risk of excessive doses.

Who may benefit?

  • People with a confirmed deficiency that does not respond to oral supplements
  • Patients with absorption problems, such as after stomach surgery
  • People with poor nutrition after long illness or surgery
  • Older patients with poor appetite, when recommended by a doctor
Condition Why caution is needed
Heart failure Risk of fluid overload
Advanced kidney disease Some substances cannot be excreted
Known allergy Risk of allergic reaction
Pregnancy and breastfeeding Content and dose need special review
Requests without blood tests Unnecessary high doses and cost

Before the infusion

  1. A medical assessment and, if needed, recent blood tests
  2. Sharing current medicines and allergies
  3. A written prescription of content and dose
  4. Sterile administration by an experienced nurse

The infusion usually takes 30–60 minutes. Mild warmth or a metallic taste can occur; itching, rash, breathlessness or palpitations mean it must be stopped immediately.

Realistic expectations

A vitamin drip is not a miracle energy source; without a deficiency, extra benefit is not expected. Balanced diet, sleep, exercise and control of chronic conditions remain the foundation.

We administer physician-prescribed vitamin infusions at home in Yalova and, by appointment, in Bursa, Istanbul and Kocaeli–Gebze. We do not administer unprescribed mixtures.

Frequently asked questions

Is a blood test required?
A recent blood test recommended by the physician helps avoid unnecessary or excessive doses; blood can also be drawn at home.
Is IV better than oral vitamins?
For most people without absorption problems, oral supplements are sufficient.
