Aftercare Following PRP: What to Do and Avoid in the First 72 Hours

When to wash hair after PRP, which products to avoid and how long to wait for exercise, sun, alcohol and hair dye, plus normal vs concerning signs.

Aftercare Following PRP: What to Do and Avoid in the First 72 Hours

Most people return to daily life the same day, but simple rules in the first 48–72 hours improve comfort and healing.

Normal Duration Action
Mild redness Hours–1 day Settles
Tenderness 1–2 days Don't press
Mild swelling (forehead) 1–3 days Sleep with head raised
Injection dots 1–2 days Don't touch
Mild headache Hours Doctor-advised painkiller

Day one: don't touch, scratch or massage the scalp; don't wash (usually at least 6–12 hours, longer if advised); no styling products; no alcohol.

Days 1–3: wash with lukewarm water and mild shampoo without rubbing; avoid sauna, steam and heavy sweating; limit direct sun (loose hat if needed); avoid ibuprofen and aspirin unless prescribed, as some specialists believe they reduce platelet activity.

Activity Typical wait
Washing hair 6–24 hours (as advised)
Light walking Same day
Intense exercise 48–72 hours
Sauna, steam 48–72 hours
Pool, sea 48–72 hours

Your personal instructions take priority.

Contact the clinic for: worsening redness or swelling, discharge or heat at injection points, fever, severe persistent pain, marked swelling spreading around the eyes.

Between sessions: balanced diet with enough protein, iron and zinc; sleep and stress management; avoid smoking; gentle hair care; follow prescribed treatments.

At our Istanbul clinic each session ends with written aftercare; clients from Yalova, Bursa, Kocaeli and Gebze can travel home the same day and can usually drive.
