How Many PRP Sessions Are Needed? Initial Protocol, Intervals and Maintenance
How many hair PRP sessions are needed, how many weeks apart, how often maintenance is done and what happens if you stop.
PRP works cumulatively: a structured initial protocol followed by maintenance supports results.
| Phase | Sessions | Interval |
|---|---|---|
| Loading | 3–4 | Every 3–4 weeks |
| Interim review | — | After about month 3 |
| Maintenance | Individual | Usually every 3–6 months |
A general framework; your doctor sets numbers and intervals by type, stage, age and response.
Why several sessions? Follicles are at different stages; growth-factor effects wane; hair cycles change over months.
Intervals: more frequent sessions lack strong evidence of extra benefit; too infrequent makes building effect harder; 3–4 weeks is typical initially.
| Time | Assessed |
|---|---|
| Baseline | Standard photos, trichoscopy if needed |
| Month 3 | Shedding, hair quality |
| Month 6 | Density, photo comparison |
| Month 12 | Long-term response, maintenance plan |
Photos in the same light, angle and hair length compare reliably.
Maintenance matters because genetic loss is progressive; PRP supports but doesn't remove predisposition, so sessions every 3–6 months are common. If you stop, natural progression may return and gains fade gradually; restarting after a long gap may need a short loading phase.
| Factor | Effect |
|---|---|
| Stage | Less response when advanced |
| Other treatments | Prescribed medicines may affect results |
| Lifestyle | Stress, sleep, diet, smoking |
| Bloods | Iron, vitamin D, thyroid |
| Preparation method | Platelet concentration and quality |
At our Istanbul clinic PRP schedules are personalised and tracked with standard photos; clients from Yalova, Bursa, Kocaeli and Gebze can plan all loading dates at the first visit.
