Angle and Direction in Eyebrow Transplants: The Technical Secrets of Natural Brows
Why brow hairs grow in different directions: angles and direction at the head, body and tail, low-angle placement, single-graft selection and the role of DHI.
Angle and direction are among the key determinants of a natural brow transplant. Brow hairs grow almost flat and point in different directions in different parts of the brow. If this is not reproduced, hairs stand up or point the wrong way and look "transplanted".
| Area | Direction | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Head (inner) | Up and slightly out | More upright, fanned |
| Body – upper row | Out and slightly down | Meets lower rows in a herringbone pattern |
| Body – lower row | Out and slightly up | Crosses upper rows |
| Tail | Out and down | Thinner and sparser |
Upper and lower rows pointing towards each other in the body give fullness and natural texture.
Why angle matters
Brow hairs exit at very low angles; upright grafts look spiky; the right angle keeps hairs close to the skin and tidy.
Graft selection: almost entirely single grafts, the finest scalp hairs resembling brow hair, and matching colour.
| Technique | Advantage |
|---|---|
| DHI (implanter pen) | Graft-by-graft angle and direction control; good between existing hairs |
| Very fine channels + placement | Angle and direction planned with channel layout |
Density and distribution: the head starts softer and sparser, the body is densest, the tail tapers, and edges are soft rather than sharp.
| Problem | Cause | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Hairs standing up | High-angle placement | Spiky, unnatural |
| Growing the wrong way | Wrong direction planning | Messy look |
| One-way alignment | No herringbone pattern | Flat, artificial |
| Over-dense head | Poor distribution | Harsh look |
Mild direction differences can be trained with gel and brushing; marked ones may need correction.
At our Istanbul clinic, brows are transplanted with single, fine grafts following region-specific angles and directions, often with DHI; clients from Yalova, Bursa, Kocaeli and Gebze can discuss the technical plan at consultation.
