Trimming and Styling Transplanted Eyebrows: Why They Grow Long and How to Care for Them
Why transplanted brow hairs grow like scalp hair, how often to trim, how to style them and which products help.
A common experience after a brow transplant is that transplanted hairs grow longer than natural brow hairs. This is a normal consequence, easily managed with regular care.
Why they grow
Follicles usually come from the scalp, which has a different growth cycle:
| Feature | Scalp follicle | Brow follicle |
|---|---|---|
| Growth (anagen) phase | Can last years | A few months |
| Maximum length | Can be very long | Stays short |
| Thickness | Varies | Usually fine–medium |
So transplanted hairs keep growing like scalp hair; growth may slow a little over time for some, but trimming is usually ongoing.
How often: usually every 1–3 weeks, depending on growth and preferred length; ask your clinic about the first trim once new hairs are strong.
Trimming at home
- Brush hairs upwards with a brow comb.
- Trim hairs above the top line with small sharp scissors.
- Brush downwards and trim below the lower line.
- Brush hairs in their natural direction (up at the head, sideways at the body and tail).
- Trim little by little.
Avoid tweezing transplanted brows, especially in the first months.
| Product | Use |
|---|---|
| Clear brow gel | Holds hairs in place |
| Tinted brow gel | Holds and adds light colour |
| Brow soap | Natural, fluffy styling |
| Brow pencil or powder | Lightly filling gaps if needed |
Transplanted hairs may grow in different directions; gel and regular brushing "train" them.
Professional grooming: tell your brow specialist about the transplant; no waxing or threading on the transplanted area; ask your clinic before lamination, lifting or tinting.
Long term: keep the area clean, remove make-up gently, protect from sun and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
At our Istanbul clinic we give practical trimming and styling advice at check-ups; clients from Yalova, Bursa, Kocaeli and Gebze can send questions with photos.
