The first question for anyone with thinning brows: "Will they grow back?" With the right steps, brows sometimes recover significantly. Considering these options first avoids unnecessary procedures and helps you decide at the right time.

1. Stop plucking

For over-plucked brows, don't touch them for at least 6–12 months (no tweezing, waxing or threading); a "messy" look is normal, and brow gel helps. Then assess what has returned.

Possible cause Step
Thyroid problems Medical review and thyroid tests
Iron or vitamin deficiencies Blood tests and supplements on advice
Alopecia areata Dermatology review and treatment
Skin conditions Appropriate treatment
Medicine side effects Discuss with your doctor
Trichotillomania Psychological support and behaviour therapy

3. Nutrition and lifestyle

Adequate protein; iron, zinc and vitamins only if deficient and on medical advice; stress management and sleep.

4. Topical treatments on medical advice

Some serums may increase density, but effects vary, some cause side effects around the eyes, effects may fade when stopped, and they must be used with medical advice and follow-up. Unregulated "brow growth" products can irritate delicate eye skin.

5. PRP and supportive treatments

Some clinics offer PRP for brows; effectiveness varies and needs medical assessment.

6. Temporary solutions

Brow pencil, powder or gel and semi-permanent brow pigmentation while waiting.

Situation Advice
Still sparse after 6–12 months without plucking Consider a transplant
Scars or permanent loss Transplant is suitable
Genetically sparse brows Transplant or pigmentation
Active alopecia areata Treat first; wait for stability
Treatable cause Treat and wait first

At our Istanbul clinic, brow thinning is first assessed for cause and chance of regrowth, with waiting, tests, pigmentation or a transplant planned individually; clients from Yalova, Bursa, Kocaeli and Gebze can send photos.

Frequently asked questions

Do brow serums really work?
Some help some people, but effects vary; use them on medical advice.
Does castor oil grow brows?
There is no solid evidence; it can moisturise, but take care near the eyes.
