Eyebrow Transplant After Permanent Make-Up: Can Hair Be Transplanted Over Old Pigment?
Can people with previous permanent make-up or microblading have a brow transplant? Pigment colour, shape, waiting times and pigment removal options.
Many people have had permanent make-up, brow tattoos or microblading over the years. As pigment fades, changes colour (grey, blue, reddish) or the shape no longer suits, they turn to a transplant for real hair. Is it possible over old pigment? Usually yes, with some considerations.
| Consideration | Why |
|---|---|
| Pigment colour | Grey, blue or red pigment may show under the hairs |
| Density | Very dark pigment can overshadow natural hair |
| Shape | The old shape may not fit the new design |
| Timing | Skin must be fully healed |
| Skin texture | Repeated procedures may have changed the skin |
Options
- Direct transplant if pigment is light and faded and the shape fits; hairs often cover it largely over time.
- Lighten or remove pigment first if it is dark, discoloured or misplaced, using laser or other methods, then wait for full healing.
- New pigmentation after the transplant in natural tones to refine gaps and colour harmony.
Waiting time
Wait until the skin has fully healed after the last session, and after laser removal for the period your doctor advises; timing is individual.
Design follows your facial proportions, not the old tattoo; a well-placed old shape can guide it, but a misplaced one may need to be managed differently.
Realistic expectations: hairs may not fully hide very dark pigment; a combined plan (lightening, transplant and new pigmentation) may be needed; the process can take longer than one session.
At our Istanbul clinic, the colour, density and shape of previous make-up are assessed, with direct transplant, prior lightening or later pigmentation planned individually; clients from Yalova, Bursa, Kocaeli and Gebze can share daylight close-ups for a preliminary assessment.
