Medical Brow Pigmentation: Camouflage for Brow Loss from Alopecia, Trichotillomania, Thyroid Disease and Scars
How brow pigmentation is planned for medical brow loss: alopecia areata, trichotillomania, thyroid disease, burns and scars, with medical collaboration.
Brow loss isn't always cosmetic. Autoimmune disease, hormonal disorders, hair pulling, burns or injury can cause partial or total loss, and pigmentation can serve as medical camouflage.
| Cause | Feature | Before pigmentation |
|---|---|---|
| Alopecia areata | Immune-mediated, patchy | Assess course with a doctor |
| Trichotillomania | Urge to pull hairs | Plan alongside psychological support |
| Hypothyroidism | Thinning of the outer third | Treat thyroid first |
| Iron deficiency, nutrition | Diffuse thinning | Check bloods |
| Frontal fibrosing alopecia | May cause permanent loss | Dermatology follow-up |
| Burns, scars | Hairless, altered texture | Wait for scar maturation |
| Overplucking | Years of tweezing | Follicles may be exhausted |
If the cause is unclear, see dermatology or internal medicine first; some brows regrow once the cause is treated.
Alopecia areata: plan during a stable period; fully lost brows can be rebuilt with powder or hybrid; regrowing hairs grow over the pigment.
Trichotillomania: pigmentation may reduce the urge for some but is not a treatment; plan with psychological support; avoiding touching during healing is crucial.
Thyroid: outer-third thinning is common; some regrowth may follow treatment; pigmentation is considered if thinning persists.
| Scar topic | Approach |
|---|---|
| Maturation | Usually wait at least 6–12 months |
| Texture | Scar tissue may retain differently |
| Test patch | Can be tried |
| Sessions | Often more than normal skin |
| Combined | Brow transplant where suitable |
Chemotherapy: usually after treatment with oncology approval and suitable blood counts; some choose pre-treatment application while brows remain, also decided with the doctor.
Losing brows can make people feel unrecognisable; medical pigmentation is often a meaningful step in regaining confidence, handled with patience and empathy.
At our Istanbul clinic medical brow cases are planned with medical input when needed; clients from Yalova, Bursa, Kocaeli and Gebze can share treatment history confidentially.
