PRP with Medical Treatments: Why Combining with Minoxidil, Finasteride and Supplements Is Discussed

Using PRP alongside prescribed hair loss medicines: the logic of combination, precautions, supplements and why not to self-medicate.

PRP with Medical Treatments: Why Combining with Minoxidil, Finasteride and Supplements Is Discussed

Genetic hair loss is multifactorial, so plans often combine approaches with different mechanisms; PRP is frequently paired with prescribed medicines.

Informational only. None of the medicines mentioned should be used without a prescription and medical follow-up.

Approach General aim
PRP Support follicles with growth factors
Topicals (e.g. minoxidil) Support the growth phase
Systemic hormonal therapy (e.g. finasteride, in men) Reduce androgen effect
Correcting deficiencies Iron, vitamin D
Lifestyle Reduce harmful factors

Combining mechanisms may work better than one alone for some people, but the mix is individual.

Topicals: used daily, PRP periodically; resume topicals when advised, usually after 24 hours; pause if the scalp is irritated.

Systemic therapy: assessed by sex, age, health and family planning; medicines and conditions differ for men and women; discuss side effects and follow-up.

Supplements Approach
Low iron/ferritin Iron on medical advice
Vitamin D deficiency Supplement on advice
B12 deficiency Treat the cause
No deficiency Random "hair vitamins" may add little

Excess vitamin A or selenium can worsen shedding; biotin can skew some lab tests — mention it before blood tests.

Why not self-medicate? Loss isn't always genetic; some medicines are unsuitable when planning pregnancy; side effects need monitoring; online products may be unreliable.

Is PRP alone enough? In early loss it can be, and it's an option for those who can't or won't take medicines; for progressive loss a combined plan is usually stronger.

Building a plan: type and stage, blood tests, health and preferences, a plan with PRP ± medicines, regular review.

At our Istanbul clinic PRP is planned with other doctor-recommended treatments when appropriate; clients from Yalova, Bursa, Kocaeli and Gebze should bring their medicine and supplement list.
